Amazfit GTR 2 & 2e review : Conclusion

The GTR 2e has :
For me, it’s quite obvious that the GTR 2 and 2e are better than the very good Fitbit Versa 3 and Sense and any Wear OS smartwatch which are smarter but unreliable, frustrating, a messy and unfunctional system ... and have a terrible battery life.
Some will regret the closed system with no support for third party apps. I think this is usually not relevant for most people who tend to install ... practically nothing on their watch and use mostly the included apps.

Price : Excellent !
At 130€ for the GTR 2e it’s almost impossible to find a better smartwatch for such a relatively low price. The black GTR2 is sold around 170€ and the Classic version is 180€ ... only 10€ more for the leather band and the stainless steel case. When you compare with a mostly plastic Garmin Vivoactive 4 sold for 330€ it’s rather amazing.BUT WAIT !
There is another Amazfit smartwatch you should maybe consider, the GTS 2 mini. It’s not round, it’s not big, it’s light and even cheaper. And I will test it soon in this blog ...
Some of my favorite smartwatches |
Which one should you choose ?
Tricky question !The GTR 2e has :
- a better battery life
- a temperature sensor (not so usefull yet)
- not so good looking marks around the screen
- a bit less reflexions on the glass
- is significantly cheaper.
- less battery life
- no temperature sensor
- can store music, which doesn’t work well
- let you answer phone calls
- should get Alexa which may expand its functions, if it even works
- looks better thanks to the laser etched marks
- its panel seems a bit recessed and reflection prone
- is more expensive.
- Do you really need to listen to music from your watch without a phone ? Does it even work ?
- Will you answer calls on your watch ?
- Will Alexa really be available in your language, and when ? Will it simply work ? And will you really use it ?
But I have a spoiler for you :
It may be very possible that the GTS 2 mini is a cheaper and even better smartwatch than the GTR 2 & 2e. So you may want to wait for its review before making a final choice. My final words : Not perfect but very good !
The GTR 2 & 2e are not perfect. They are still a bit limited on the smart side, notifications need more improvements and some basic functions are still missing for now. But it’s already quite good and a huge improvement over the last generation. For me, it’s quite obvious that the GTR 2 and 2e are better than the very good Fitbit Versa 3 and Sense and any Wear OS smartwatch which are smarter but unreliable, frustrating, a messy and unfunctional system ... and have a terrible battery life.
