Onyx Boox has finally added image dithering and it's a game changer !

Some time ago I stopped using my beautifull Onyx Boox Note Air for reading manga because most images looked posterized. Gradations were replaced by quite ugly flat grey zones. 

Without dithering / with dithering

Indeed the display by itself is only 16 levels of grey but most e-readers use dithering to emulate a wider tone palette. I was disappointed to se that such fine devices didn't do this basic and essential function.

Now, it's settled, with the new 3.2.3 update, Neo Reader (the default reader app) uses dithering, finally making of these excellent e-ink devices a perfect choice for manga and comics.

HOW TO USE IT

• Open a manga in the default reader app
• touch the center of the display 
• select the CONTRAST tab
• toggle PICTURE SMOOTHING on
• deactivate completely the sharpness enhancement (first slider)

THIS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SHARPNESS ENHANCEMENT

IT WORKS ONLY FOR THE DEFAULT READER APP

The very good new is that most of Onyx Boox devices have received this update, even quite old ones like the Nova Pro.
