Don't buy a Fitbit anymore, Google is killing it silently

The sad new finally came today : New Fitbit Versa 4 and Sense 2 won't get 3rd party app support. Never.

When the 2 watches were released, not long ago, there was a bit of uncertainty about app support, as some people and reviews said it was planned and should be available shortly. Now it's officially gone forever.

The Versa 3 and Sense were both very capable smartwatches with a good feature set, support for Alexa, on board music storage, Google assistant, voice dictation to reply to text messages ... and a rather small but usefull app store and watchfaces store.

Now the new models are indeed lower versions, extremely reduced,

  • without music storage
  • without music remote
  • without WIFI
  • without Google assistant, maps, wallet
  • without app store
  • without watchfaces store

Versa 4 and Sense have been so castrated that it seems difficult to call it smartwatches anymore.

What's even more disturbing is that this important information finally came out after the launch and after the reviews were written. So you will continue to read & watch reviews of these 2 products saying the app store is coming soon ... but it won't. This is a clever but dirty trick to push people to buy it.

Google didn't wait long to begin the process of killing Fitbit after buying the company. They will soon launch the Google Pixel watch with Fitbit tech inside, that's probably why they reduced the Versa 4 and Sense 2 to nothing more than glorified activity trackers.

How long before they kill themselves their Pixel watch if success doesn't meet their expectations ?
